Padding About The Carpet

"Carpet padding comes in a variety of types, weights, and thickness in order to cover a range of traffic conditions.  Sponge rubber, foam rubber, urethane foam, bonded urethane, and felted (a mixture of hair and jute) are the most common constructions.  In order to select the proper type, weight and thickness, it is important to carefully describe the type of traffic found in each area to be covered by carpeting.  It is popularly believed that a thick, soft padding gives the most desirable feel underfoot.  Soft padding, however, is not at all recommeneded for such high-traffic areas as stairs or family rooms.  It would only encourage excessive flexing, buckling and wrinkling which would promote undue wear in the backing yarns of the carpet.  For these areas, denser, firmer padding should be the choice.
Your newly decorated room should be a statement about you.  It should be a reflection of your tastes and life style." - On Interior Design
